My First 5k!

At the end of September I completed my first 5k – it was great! Along with my best friend and her family, we participated in the Young Heroes 5k hosted by Nemours/AI DuPont hospital to celebrate her mom’s birthday. The 5k was to benefit Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. As some of you may know, my best friend’s little sister, Kylie, was diagnosed with cancer as a baby, which thankfully she was able to beat. So we walked to support her and so many other children like her, which was amazing.

I didn’t train for this or anything because it was a last minute decision. I also wasn’t registered as a runner, I actually didn’t even know that that was a thing, I thought you just register and participate lol. So I didn’t get a cool number thing for my shirt :(. However, I ended up running some of the way anyway which I didn’t initially set out to do. I went into it hoping I could finish in 45 mins but expecting to take much longer. My time ended up being 51 mins! That’s not great but having not had any prior training I think 51 mins wasn’t too shabby and I was only 6 mins behind the time I hoped to finish. It was an awesome experience. They had facts about Cancer and Blood Disorders posted along the way and the scenery was sooo beautiful. I’ve been thinking about possibly training and actually running in one come Spring time, I’m not 100% sure yet but we will see. This is definitely something I could see myself doing again. I’m proud of myself for completing it. Halfway through they had a cut off where you could quit if you wanted and I kept right on going. Overall it was really fun to participate in a 5k for such a great cause and support such a great family.

What is the last thing you did for the first time? Let me know in the comments!
